Kari A. Knutson, MA
Kari Knutson, MA, is a counselor, mother, closet rap artist, itchy foot traveler, and chronic extrovert. Rather than selecting a single “career,” she has cobbled together an assortment of gigs and crafted an active life filled with dance parties, counseling elementary and middle school students, teaching American Sign Language, and public speaking on issues related to psychology. Knutson is an energetic speaker who is passionate about connecting with people. Her company, Knutson Consulting, is focused on helping people transform their organizations through developing interpersonal skills and bridging cultural and communication divides. Her goal is to take “psychology off the couch” and bring it into the lives of people everywhere through her presentations on topics like emotional intelligence, compassion fatigue, burnout and stress, dealing with difficult people, and cultural competency. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology and philosophy from Cornell College in Iowa. After college, she earned her master’s degree in higher education administration from Appalachian State University in North Carolina, and an additional master’s degree in counseling from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Knutson later attended International Summer School at the University of Oslo in Norway, where she received a Certificate in Special Needs Education.
