CAPT Young began her social work professional career with a community based mental health program in Silver Spring Maryland. She served as case manager and then later as the Director of Behavioral Health Services at the Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington DC. From 1996 – 2000, CAPT Young worked at the National Association of Social Workers in the Office of Quality Assurance. In 2000, she was commissioned as a US Public Health Service (USPHS) officer and has served at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). She served a two-year detail to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support the development of the VA’s care coordination program for severely ill and injured veterans. Currently, she is with HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau in the Division of Community HIV AIDS Programs.
CAPT Young hold a bachelor’s degree from Seattle University and a Master in Social Work degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is a LICSW in the District of Columbia, a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and holds a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work from the National Association of Social Workers. She is also a certified girls’ lacrosse coach and volunteers with a Washington DC program teaching children the game of lacrosse.
