Martha A. Sparks, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she serves as Director of Mental Health Services for two outpatient HIV primary care clinics. In addition to providing direct clinical services, Dr. Sparks supervises a team of psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners in a co-located mental health service. She serves as site principal investigator for a federally-funded effectiveness trial of a motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy intervention to promote medication adherence and reduce hazardous substance use among people living with HIV. Her research and program development interests include population health and integrating substance use assessment and treatment into routine medical care. Dr. Sparks is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. She graduated from Columbia University and received her doctorate from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
