Session Description

Educational planners face a host of challenges. First and foremost is how to ensure that the planned education will effectively address the practice performance gaps of learners. Other challenges involve coordinating the contributions of others involved in the development process while balancing the concerns of internal and external stakeholders. This session will focus on the Caffarella Interactive Planning Model and the ADDIE model as examples of systematic planning methods that are used successfully by educational planners. The session will identify key tasks that must be addressed regardless of the model used, and will consider how specific formats might influence the approach that a planner takes.

Ms. Sibley is Division Vice President, Education, at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in Washington DC. As the leader in cardiovascular medical education, and the largest developer of cardiovascular clinical content, ACC offers cardiovascular care professionals lifelong learning opportunities through a fully integrated, outcomes-driven and competency-based curriculum for improving their competence and performance towards improved patient health outcomes.

Ms. Sibley oversees several key teams within Education at the College: live educational courses, online education and digital products, educational needs assessment and outcomes evaluation, CME/CNE/CE accreditation and maintenance of certification (MOC) Part II self-assessment offerings, the competency-based curriculum and professional standards for clinical educators, and the ACC annual scientific session. Overall, Education at ACC ensures that its members are equipped with tools and resources to continuously improve their practice, maintain their certifications, and further their professional growth.

Prior to her work with ACC, Ms. Sibley spent 18 years as the President and Owner of Corporate Resources, a consultancy offering strategic design of online knowledge management systems, educational portfolio planning, and all aspects of educational program development, including the translation of performance improvement concepts into practice. Her projects included conducting educational needs assessments, facilitating strategic planning efforts, implementing web portals for lifelong learning initiatives, developing medical curricula, building performance improvement models for educational activities, developing blended classroom/web-based training, structuring
e-learning websites, developing online self-assessments, and managing multimedia education in formats such as CD/DVD, webcasts, and webinars for dispersed learner populations. She also served for 10 years on the Board of the Gaithersburg Germantown Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Sibley has published and spoken professionally on a variety of topics in the fields of educational design and continuing medical education.

Ms. Sibley served earlier in her career as the Manager of Computer-Based Training for SAS Institute, Inc., the world-renowned data warehousing and decision support software developer for knowledge management.

Ms. Sibley holds a Master of Science degree in the Biological Sciences as well as a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology and Instructional Design from San Diego State University. She was honored as the 1983 Outstanding Graduate from SDSU College of Education for her pioneering instructional design work in computer-based training systems.
