Action verbs? Check. Beyond knowledge? Check. Effective use of learning objectives? Not so much.

As professional clinical educators, we understand the need for learning objectives within our education. Yet, using our learning objectives to increase the effectiveness of our courses can be challenging. This session will explore the science behind learning objectives and provide learners with strategies for integrating learning objectives into course development and delivery. Using a case study from Mayo Clinic's Cardiovascular Board Review Course, the session will explore how to streamline learning objectives, support better teaching, and maximize learning and retention. Included in the session will be approaches to working with activity planners and faculty to understand how to use design and use objectives most effectively. Learners will also learn methods for using learning objectives to comprehesively measure activity outcomes within a single activity or across a portfolio of courses.
