Session Description
Patients are unique learners. As such, drivers and deterrents with which CPD professionals are familiar in regards to HCP learners are not easily transferrable to this emerging audience. As an industry with a growing focus on patient education, it is imperative to develop and expand best practices regarding patient inclusion and patient-centeredness for our patient-directed education programs. Through several case studies of patient-directed educational programs, we will explore successful ways in which patient learner have been engaged prior to, during and following educational interventions. Case studies will explore:

Throughout the case presentations, we will interweave considerations of patient health literacy, HIPAA regulations and the importance of partnerships to achieve successful patient engagement.

Mr. Rubio oversees all CME and patient education audience generation and partnership activities across PlatformQ Health’s learning channels. Formerly the Global Director of Communities at SERMO, the world’s largest patient case crowdsourcing platform for physicians, he led expansion of the US-based network into Europe and Latin America. Beginning his digital engagement career in mobile gaming and massive mulitplayer games, he transitioned to HCP and patient/ caregiver education with a particular passion for developing "sticky", social learning experiences. Mr. Rubio also advises several rare disease non-profits, helping improve HCP awareness of their diseases and building understanding around patient/ caregiver challenges and helping up-level their digital education strategies. He holds a BA from Williams College and an MBA from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College.

Wendy Turell

Dr. Turell began her work in health care as a public health researcher and administrator for New York City public and private hospitals, where she worked on applied public health infectious disease and orthopedic initiatives. Since 2003, she has focused on outcomes and evaluation in CEHP. Wendy currently works at PlatformQ Health Education, LLC, where she is Vice President of CME Outcomes and Analytics. Dr. Turell proudly serves as chair of the Alliance research committee. She holds a doctorate from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and an MS in Psychology from University of Pennsylvania.

Anne C. Roc

Dr. Roc has been in CME for over 11 years, and is currently the Senior Medical Director at PlatformQ Health Education, LLC, where she leads a medical staff to direct and support the development of educational grants, live-online activities, program outcomes, and publication plans. Formerly, she was at McMahon Publishing as a content developer and editor, and at Medscape as a content developer, editor, and clinical strategist for business development in CNS. Dr. Roc’s scientific and educational contributions have been presented and published in medical and industry conferences and peer-reviewed publications. She holds a doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
