Session Description
In an era when science and technology move at incredible speeds, it is easy to believe that the critical needs for our learners are the shiny new advances. As an education community, however, it is our responsibility to climb out of our silos and evaluate the real-world situation; a picture frequently so different than what one finds in PubMed. This session breaks through the traditional, bringing together colleagues and competitors, to focus on a single goal: getting outside our own echo chambers to consider the greater educational needs. In this panel discussion, we’ll look beyond our traditional roles as competitors to share insight from recent programs which match local health crises with continuing education. We’ll use examples from past programs addressing the substance misuse as examples of thinking beyond the RFP, forming effective partnerships outside the CE world and avoiding/retreating from the ineffective ones, and matching design with boots on the ground healthcare. We’ll share data, good and alarming, on how even seemingly small efforts may have a large effect on patient care and outcomes. Attendees can expect to leave this session inspired and armed with improved ability evaluate real-world needs, get out of our traditional comfort zones, and breakthrough silos to develop impactful and meaningful activities.
