Session Description
Optimal patient care can be achieved when we treat the full range of physical, mental, and behavioral health needs. With that in mind, equally as important is identifying which healthcare professionals should be involved in treatment. This presentation will distinguish between interprofessional and multidisciplinary collaboration with an emphasis on behavioral healthcare. Often, the two terms are used interchangeably. We will focus on the value of interprofessional collaboration which reflects a more fully integrated approach whereby health professionals work closely together, have clarity and respect for each other’s roles, and ultimately understand and appreciate the value of appropriate referral.

Attendees will be able to identify practical strategies to determine which approaches might be most beneficial for their respective organizations when collaborating with behavioral healthcare professionals as part of their journey to improving patient outcomes.  Barriers to a person-centered, interprofessional collaborative approach will also be addressed. Behavioral health CE leaders will provide tools, resources, and practical approaches to demonstrate the value of including the right professionals in the right circumstances for holistic patient care.
