This two part workshop is designed to provide guidance and support for the VA-BC Exam candidate. These sessions may also serve as a review and update of vascular access procedures, current Standards of Practice and recently published evidence for the practicing VA-BC nurse/healthcare individual. The content presented will be directed toward a review of the major points and key knowledge facts of test content areas, as well as the identification of additional reference materials to consider when preparing to sit for the VA-BC Exam.

Please note: Attendees may register for the ONE or BOTH parts of this workshop. Each part is priced separately.

Morning session from 8:00am to 12:00pm will cover content areas I – II – III:
I is: Vascular Access Devices
II is: Vascular Access Device Maintenance
III is: Complications and Interventions

Afternoon session from 1:30pm to 5:30pm will cover content areas IV – V – VI – VII:
IV is: Clinical Application
V is: Communication/Patient Advocacy
VI is: Research/Quality Management/Critical Thinking
VII is: Ethical and Legal Considerations of Vascular Access

Learning Objectives:

• Comprehend the impact of patient education, psychosocial issues and healthcare provider collaboration on successful venous access for a patient.
• Define and describe the Process Improvement Process.
• Identify the major Regulatory Agencies, Government organizations and Standards of Practice that impact Vascular Access Device placement.
• List and define the 4 elements of Negligence as they relate to the placement of Vascular Access Devices.
