This two part workshop is designed to provide guidance and support for the VA-BC Exam candidate. These sessions may also serve as a review and update of vascular access procedures, current Standards of Practice and recently published evidence for the practicing VA-BC nurse/healthcare individual. The content presented will be directed toward a review of the major points and key knowledge facts of test content areas, as well as the identification of additional reference materials to consider when preparing for the VA-BC Exam.

Morning session from 8:00am to 12:00pm will cover content areas I – II – III:
I is: Vascular Access Devices
II is: Vascular Access Device Maintenance
III is: Complications and Interventions
Afternoon session from 1:30pm to 5:30pm will cover content areas IV – V – VI – VII:
IV is: Clinical Application
V is: Communication/Patient Advocacy
VI is: Research/Quality Management/Critical Thinking
VII is: Ethical and Legal Considerations of Vascular Access
- State the components of patient assessment prior to Vascular Access Device placement.
- Define and differentiate peripheral venous access devices and central venous access devices.
- Implement the proper interventions for vascular access device care and maintenance.
- Define and identify the major complications which may occur when a Vascular Access Device has been inserted into a patient.
