The Neonatal and Pediatric Ultrasound Guided PICC Insertion Class has been designed specifically for clinicians with excellent PIV insertion skills wanting to venture further into the art of PICC placements within the dynamic realm of neonates and pediatrics. The clinicians will be given the optimal opportunity to develop new skills by; utilizing the modified seldinger technique (MST), traditional PICC insertion technique, and optimizing vessel visualization by integrating ultrasonic guidance.
This class is highly energetic and interactive! Attendees will be placed in groups with a designated instructor and will be given the opportunity to return demonstrate skills and receive personalized feedback within the following categories: vasculature assessment, insertion techniques and complete procedural sterile setup. There will be a review of indications, troubleshooting, and possible complications that can arise during ultrasound guided PICC insertions. The goals of this class are geared towards increasing the clinician’s procedural technique, self-awareness, skills, and self-confidence. All registered attendees will be required to review the provided didactic materials prior to attending the class and complete the online test that will be provided after registration has been completed. Review is highly encouraged as this will make the class experience more beneficial for all attendees.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify three indications for neonatal and pediatric PICCs.
- Identify vessel options for neonatal and pediatric PICCs.
- Differentiate and demonstrate the two main insertion techniques for the neonatal and pediatric patient.
- Identify neonatal and pediatric vasculature with the use of ultrasound.
- Successfully demonstrate a complete procedural sterile set up for a PICC insertion.
- Identify three possible complications related to neonatal and pediatric PICC insertions.
