WS2 — Pre-Meeting Workshop: Vascular Access Procedural Lab (Morning Session)

The vascular access procedure lab is a mixed simulation and cadaveric hands on opportunity. This pre-conference allows attendees to review, insert and discuss invasive procedures on cadaveric specimens while sharpening their insertion skills. Each attendee will rotate through a set of dynamic stations to increase procedural confidence and awareness. These stations allow clinicians to performs the following: RaCeVA and RaPeVA ultrasound assessment, insertion of acute and long term central venous catheters, perform ultrasound guided needling techniques for both peripheral and acute catheters, insertion and manage of interosseous access followed by an anatomic cadaveric review of vascular pathways.

Workshop registrants are required to arrive at the workshop room – Union Station B – 30 minutes prior to the start time, so by no later than 7:00 AM. Your conference badge is NOT required for this workshop, so please go directly to Union Station B in the morning, rather than stopping at the AVA registration counters. Workshop tickets and an attendee roster will be available at the workshop room.

Learning Objectives:

• Perform a full RaCeVA and RaPeVA pre-assessment with use of ultrasound to compliment catheter to vessel ratio application.
• Describe leading the needle while demonstrating needling techniques with ultrasound guidance.
• Demonstrate traditional short and long term CVAD insertion to include femorally inserted central catheters.
• Identify when IO should be considered, insertion technique, care and removal.
• Define various anatomical structures related to vascular access through open cadaveric review.
