WS8 — Pre-Meeting Workshop: Intravascular ECG-Guidance for CVAD Tip Confirmation: Basic & Advanced Concepts for Accurate Assessment and Interpretation

Real-time, intravascular ECG-guidance technology has shown to be more accurate, time efficient and cost-effective compared to conventional chest radiography in confirming CVAD tip position. Moreover, intravascular ECG-guidance dramatically reduces the need for repositioning catheters post-insertion, potentially reducing contamination and CLABSI rates.
Part One of this workshop will address fundamentals of intravascular ECG-guidance technology, supporting evidence and recommendations, indications and limitations. Clinical outcomes data describing the impact of intravascular ECG-guidance technology in improving patient outcomes and reducing procedural time and costs will be presented. Numerous intravascular ECG waveforms will be assessed and analyzed, demonstrating obvious, less obvious and challenging waveforms requiring advanced skill and knowledge. Finally, critical troubleshooting techniques and assessment skills designed to optimize waveform presentation and enhance accurate analysis and interpretation will be presented and discussed.
Part Two of the workshop will include an interactive, unbiased practicum in which simulated insertions of various intravascular ECG-guidance systems will be demonstrated by clinical experts. Participants will have the opportunity to observe and discuss the unique features of each system, including integrated navigation technology and valuable tips for optimizing skill and accuracy in analysis and interpretation.
- Present current guidelines and clinical outcomes data supporting the use of intravascular ECG-guidance technology for confirmation of CVAD tip position.
- Review fundamentals of intravascular ECG- guidance technology, including
a. Basic electrophysiology of the heart
b. Assessment, interpretation and comparison of external and intravascular ECG waveforms
c. Current indications and limitations of intravascular ECG-guidance technology.
- Present and discuss numerous case studies demonstrating obvious, less obvious and challenging intravascular ECG waveforms and identify critical techniques and assessment skills designed to optimize waveform presentation and enhance accurate analysis and interpretation.
- Participate in an interactive practicum designed to provide participants the opportunity to observe and discuss specific features, simulated insertions and advanced techniques and troubleshooting tips for various intravascular ECG-guidance systems.
