This presentation will describe one IV Services department’s transition from CXR PICC tip confirmation to ECG tip confirmation at a level one trauma center teaching hospital. A review of how a team, placing 3,600 PICC lines a year, planned for the transition of technologies. This session will including nursing education, staffing, and budgetary considerations for the transition. A review of benefits will include; reduction in delays to patient treatment, increased nursing and patient satisfaction, decreased operational costs to the organization, and reduction in insertion related complications.

A Vascular access specialist with over 20 years of clinical nursing experience. Have worked on several vascular access teams within the Dallas-Ft. Worth community and is currently a clinical education manager. Coordinates and assists with evaluating, planning, implementing, training and educating on various vascular access devices at different institutions across the nation. An active member of the national and local INS chapter and AVA Association, and currently serves as the secretary for the local AVA Network in the Dallas, Fort Worth area-STARVAN. Frequently attends national conferences. Believes in placing the appropriate device for the patient to ensure the best patient satisfaction and outcomes.
