This interactive presentation brings together three passionate pioneers on the front line of CLABSI prevention. Listen to the variety of strategies to broaden your understanding of approaches to help achieve and sustain reductions in bloodstream infections. We will take you through a brief primer on understanding the data available as a starting point and then learn how nurse engagement can play a roll in breakthrough improvements. The presenters will literally walk you through a lively A-Z discussion to stimulate discussion while consider products, people and processes. Role playing will enhance the experience – be ready to volunteer!

Chellie DeVries has been involved in infection prevention and hospital epidemiology for 25 years, with a passion for vascular access. She is a frequent presenter at local AVA, APIC, and INS chapters and has contributed to numerous publications at the intersection of vascular access, hospital epidemiology and patient safety. She is a past board member with VACC and incoming director at large with the AVA Board as well as co-president of her local KIVAN network.

Holly Hess, RN, BSN, VA-BC™

Pediatric Vascular Access Nurse
Wolfson Children's Hospital

Holly graduated from Penn State in 1975 and worked in Labor and Delivery and IV Therapy before spending 25 years in a Level 3 NICU, and the last 15 years in Pediatric and Neonatal Vascular Access. She started and developed the Vascular Access Team at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL where she is the Assistant Nurse Manager of the team that places all PICCs as well as ultrasound guided PIVs, and peripheral arterial lines. Holly has presented several times at AVA and teaches pediatric and neonatal PICC insertion.

Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine
University of Louisville School of Medicine

Dr. Hudson Garrett currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the Presidential Advisor of the Vascular Access Certification Corporation Board of Directors. He has completed the Johns Hopkins Fellows Program in Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control and the CDC Fundamentals of Healthcare Epidemiology program. Dr. Garrett serves He was recognized as a "Who’s Who in Infection Prevention" by Infection Control Magazine. Dr. Garrett recently served as the subject matter expert for the Medscape CME Series sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Garrett's passion is fostering the advancement of evidence-based practices for infection prevention and control and vascular access across interprofessional boundaries globally. He is a Distinguished Fellow and Practitioner in the National Academies of Practice.
