Neonatal and pediatric clinicians face and solve perplexing challenges in vascular access every day. This elite international forum will feature the best and the brightest at the Fourth Annual PEDISIG International Grand Rounds. Selected participants will be asked to present their clinical cases that demonstrate: unusual clinical presentations and dilemmas, creative solutions or innovations in practice for patient safety. Attendees will gain clinical pearls that they can apply immediately in practice should they encounter similar challenges.

Elizabeth Sharpe, DNP, APRN, NNP-BC, VA-BC™, FAANP

The Ohio State University

Dr. Elizabeth Sharpe is a neonatal nurse practitioner, vascular access specialist, and Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing at The Ohio State University. She is the coauthor of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) Guideline for Practice: Neonatal Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters, 3rd Edition, and a globally respected expert and author. Dr. Sharpe serves on the National Association of Neonatal Nurses Board of Directors, and has served on the Pediatric Special Interest Group Advisory Board and Vascular Access Certification Corporation Board. Dr. Sharpe was honored to be named the 1st Janet Pettit Scholar by the Association for Vascular Access in 2014, and is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the National Academies of Practice.

Graziela Bomfim has been a nurse for 15 years; graduated in Nursing from the Federal University of São Paulo (2003) and Pediatric and Neonatological Nursing Specialization by UNIFESP (2004); postgraduate in Nursing Management by FEHIAE (2010) and Specialization in Infusion Therapy and Vascular Access by the Israelita Beneficent Society Albert Einstein (2014). Master in Nursing from Albert Einstein College of Health Sciences. She worked as a nurse in the Pediatric Semi Intensive Unit of the Hospital São Paulo / Federal University of São Paulo (January 2004 to October 2005); also served as a nurse at the Pediatric Intensive Care Center and is currently Senior Nurse of Pediatrics at the Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital. She has experience in Nursing, with emphasis in Nursing, working mainly in the following subjects: pediatric nursing, intensive care and children and has a book published with the following title: "Guia de medicamentos em Enfermagem".

Colleen Carrelli, a pediatric nurse for 20 years, is a vascular access specialist at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. In her role, Colleen places PICC lines and IV's as well as serves as an expert nurse consultant for central catheter related issues. She is the team educator for PICC line insertion and provides house wide education for PIV placement. A member of the Association for Vascular Access for over 5 years, Colleen is actively researching ways to reduce venous thrombo-embolism related to PICC line insertion. This is Colleen's second time speaking at the annual Association for Vascular Access conference.

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Carol Czajka has been a nurse for 38 years. She is currently a Clinical Expert with the Vascular Access Team at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Clinical , education and administrative responsibilities include insertion and care of peripheral and central venous access and establishing evidenced-based policies, procedures and standards for neonatal and pediatric IV therapy. Carol works closely with the NICU and PICU teams by providing vascular access support in their complicated patient population, assisted in the development of intensive care bedside PICC programs, and works along side their quality improvement team to help educate the staff and reduce harm metrics. Carol is an active participant in hospital wide initiatives for the advancement of vascular access needs and harm reduction. She has presented at several local, regional and national conferences, on topics related to vascular access. Carol is certified by the Pediatric Nurses Society and the Association for Vascular Access.

Megan Hansen has been a nurse for 10 years specialized in Pediatric Intensive Care and more recently vascular access. She founded and co-leads the Pediatric Vascular Access Team at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital since March 2017. Megan has presented in various formats at her institution from Nursing Grand Rounds to resident lectures on vascular access.

Michelle Hinckley works at Phoenix Children's Hospital. She has been a nurse for 24 years, working on the Vascular Access Service for the past 14 years. She is the Clinical Lead RN for the Vascular Access Service and is involved with house wide hospital education concerning vascular access. She also serves on both the CLABSI and VTE committes. This is her third submission to AVA.

Ida Creech-Obrian has been a nurse for 27 years. She has been working in pediatrics for the past 25 years. She is currently a valuable member of the Vascular Team at Phoenix Children's Hospital. This is her third submission to AVA.

He is founder and president of the Italian Group of Central Venous Access (GAVeCeLT) and collaborates with WoCoVA (World Conference on Vascular Access) as chairman of the Scientific committee. He received the Herbst Award for excellence in vascular access in 2009.

Julieta is a nurse with the Vascular Assessment and Management Service at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. After many years in PICU, Julieta joined the VAMS team when LCCH opened in 2016. At LCCH, Julieta provides clinical leadership and education to multidisciplinary staff, and is a keen participant in the myriad of vascular access-related research projects.
Julieta is passionate about the safe, high quality and clinically effective management of vascular access devices and the provision of accessible resources for hospital staff. Julieta has been involved in the introduction of the electronic medical record and is the VAMS computer nerd.
Julieta is also a foundation member and secretary of the Australian Vascular Access Society.
