Arterial catheters are the most frequently manipulated catheter once inserted to our patients as they are commonly used for all blood draws(arterial and venous) and blood sugar checks. They are a constant monitor of our patient’s blood pressure making them vital for the titration of life sustaining drugs. This presentation’s aim is to aid the clinician in becoming more familiar with arterial catheter insertion, care and maintenance. The clinician will be presented with the following topics of discussion:
• Arterial Line Indications and Contradictions
• Insertion Techniques and site selection
• Incorporation of ultrasound for vessel identification and catheter insertion
• Daily maintenance and troubleshooting techniques

Keegan Mahoney is a Vascular Access Specialist from Phoenix, Arizona. Keegan works as the Vascular Access Team Supervisor at Banner Gateway MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has been placing vascular access devices (PIV, Arterial, PICC, CVC, ADC) under ultrasound guidance since 2006. He and his team are currently placing ADCs in stem cell patients for collection, allowing them to leave the facility with the device until the collection is successful. Keegan enjoys the opportunity Teleflex Academy has given him to share his knowledge and learn from other vascular access specialists across the US. Most recently he and his co-author were awarded the first place poster award at the 2017 AVA Scientific Conference in Phonenix Arizona.
