This will be a blow by blow summary of an actual lethal case just completed as presented by the plaintiff's lawyer- Michael Brown J.D. and Ken Symington as a first time expert witness. This case has fascinating subtleties and glaring over sights as well as questionable behaviors. It highlights the non-standardized, highly variable levels of PICC/ VAD training , communication, documentation , insertional excellence, certification , image monitor quality and capability , image interpretation and radiology report language that are present throughout the USA. It will show deficiencies and suggest methods of quality improvement. It will also highlight legal nuances,common maneuverings and give you a sense of how such a case legally unfolds,its' complexity and what it is like to be an expert witness-against your own imaging speciality.

Ken Symington is an attending interventional Radiologist at Inland Imaging Associates in Spokane, Washington. Dr. Symington has many years of experience in placing vascular access devices, managing complications and investigating novel methods to attain vascular access in challenging clinical situations. For him, one area of special interest in vascular access is VAD tip location. He is presently on the AVA Board of Directors and is AVA President Elect for 2019.

Attorney
Georgia Infant Death

Mr. Brown is an attorney in Augusta, Georgia. He has handled many medical malpractice cases in both state and federal courts. He has made several appearances in Augusta, Albany, and Atlanta, in Georgia and in Columbia and Charleston, in South Carolina. He is presently handling a case in Georgia concerning vascular access and has retained Kenneth Symington, MD to provide expertise to assist the court.
