H1 — Left SVC Placement: Good to Go, Right?

Session will include basic anatomy of right and left SVC as well as the significance of the left coronary sinus in the presence of a left SVC placement. Presentation of case studies of PICC line placement in the left SVC including notable changes with ECG/Doppler technology. Discussion will include collaboration with Radiologist, Interventional Radiology, and Primary Care Physician regarding use of diagnostic tools in order to identify if line is safe for patient use as well as alternative options for central access if needed.

Northside Hospital

Lori Brown received her BSN in 1985 is currently working on her MSN in Education. She has worked in many areas of nursing but for the past 10 years has exclusively worked in vascular access. Currently, she is one of two Nurse Clinicians for Northside Hospital in Atlanta encompassing three campuses. Northside has approximately 1000 licensed beds and is still growing. With IV Teams and PICC nurses at each location, needless to say they are busy! As the Clinician she works both clinically at the bedside training the IV team and as an Educator in the classroom. She assisted with the development of and is a presenter of "IV University" at Northside. IV University is a six hour class offered quaterly to all nursing staff that brings together Infection Prevention and Best Practice in Vascular Access.
