This session will present the current standards of practice contrasted with practice options available to clinicians outside of acute care, demonstrate required adaptations and mitigate potential complications during insertion and maintenance. Safe patient handoff and necessary clinician education will be demonstrated to provide representation of effective and safe transitions of care.

Elizabeth is a vascular access specialist who thrives in the nontraditional environment. She has been providing high level infusion and vascular access in the community for over 10 years and carries certifications in both vascular access and wound care. She currently practices community based infusion care for IV Solutions Inc. In addition to composing didactic and presenting education for emerging vascular access nurses and teams. Elizabeth is the current New England Chapter Presidential Advisor of Infusion Nurses Society. She lectures and educates frequently in the community with the goal of increasing the quality of care in subacute and nontraditional patient care environments.

Timothy has been a clinician for nearly 30 years with the last 10 devoted to vascular access. He is an accomplished vascular accesss clinician who has succeeded in moving acute CVC insertions by nurses from medical centers to the sub-acute arenas. Tim is a clinical coach dedicated to helping vascular access teams expand their service to inculde all types of vascualr access devices.
