This presentation will focus on basic ultrasound concepts such as cross section or longitudinal views, understanding depth and gain, relationships between vessel depth and angle of approach/needle length, as well as the more advanced techniques of angling, rocking, and sliding. Specific considerations for the small vessels of the pediatric and neonatal patients will be highlighted, and some novel training methods/tools will be discussed.

Holly graduated from Penn State in 1975 and worked in Labor and Delivery and IV Therapy before spending 25 years in a Level 3 NICU, and the last 15 years in Pediatric and Neonatal Vascular Access. She started and developed the Vascular Access Team at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL where she is the Assistant Nurse Manager of the team that places all PICCs as well as ultrasound guided PIVs, and peripheral arterial lines. Holly has presented several times at AVA and teaches pediatric and neonatal PICC insertion.
