In the Driver's Seat Session: How do you successfully growth virtual care within a system?

This panel will share experiences and lessons learned through their support of virtual solution integration and growth across within health systems. Each of the panelists will highlight lessons learned in their experience in growing programs to scale, while each brings unique perspectives based on their individual markets. Deanna Larson, Quality Integration and eCare for Avera discussion brings vast experience in understanding and meeting needs of rural markets. Matt Levi of Catholic Health Initiatives represents a large and geographically diverse organization in transition. Gigi Sorenson, of Global Med, brings both her personal experience from within a system, and the diversity of experience of Global Med. As moderator, Dr. Moore will also be able to share experiences as viewed from Mercy Virtual and leadership experiences across a diversity of health care stakeholder.

Randy Moore

Randy Moore, M.D., M.B.A. brings 30+ years as a visionary physician executive focused on care model and health system transformation. Most recently president of Mercy Virtual in Chesterfield, Missouri, over four years he led growth from 100 to 800+ FTEs, exceeded performance targets, building and integrating virtual care transformation solutions within internal Mercy communities as well as external systems. Prior to joining Mercy Virtual, Moore consulted with major health care systems to assist in their transition from traditional fee-for-service to value-based reimbursement models focused on population health management. During his more than 30-year career, he has provided leadership to companies of all sizes — including Fortune 500 companies — across the provider, pharmaceutical, biotech and health plan settings. Early in his career, he served as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He graduated with AOA honors from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, earned his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and completed undergraduate studies at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and the University of London in England.

Deanna Larson, CEO of Avera eCARE has over a decade of leadership experience within Avera Health's integrated health system, based in Sioux Falls, S.D. For the past seven years, Deanna has expanded Avera eCARE's virtual health system to extend healthcare access to over 335 communities in 13 states, serving hospitals, clinics, long-term care communities, correctional facilities, schools and directly to consumers. In 2009, Avera eCARE was awarded the American Telemedicine Association President's Award for Health Delivery, Quality and Transformation.

With Deanna's vision and leadership, Avera eCARE has transformed healthcare delivery by improving recruitment and retention of providers, increasing access to needed healthcare services, and enhancing quality, while decreasing costs. Deanna's experience includes multiple nursing leadership roles in the areas of acute care, critical care, behavioral health, long-term care, home care, and spent over 15 years as the VP of Quality Innovation for Avera Health.

Gigi Sorenson

Chief Clinical Officer

Gigi Sorenson is Chief Clinical Officer at GlobalMedia Group, LLC (GlobalMed). Ms. Sorenson is responsible for assuring clinical integration of workflow processes provided and applicability of products and software developed for the customer. She also helps lead the consulting service which assists customers in strategic planning and operational implementation of telehealth programs and services. Ms. Sorenson has developed remote patient monitoring, direct to consumer, outpatient specialty clinic, and inpatient acute care telehealth programs while working in the telehealth space. She has published on remote patient monitoring program success and partnerships required for success. She is a thought leader and national speaker on telehealth program development, remote patient monitoring, mHealth, and rural health. In recent years, she has been the principle investigator on numerous grant and foundational funding to develop and expand telemedicine programs across the rural southwest. She is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Master of Science in Nursing degree and holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
