Remote patient monitoring is a core use of telemedicine, and one of the fastest growing segments in health care. Learn how some of the nation’s largest integrated delivery networks are using remote monitoring to care for their communities, and what these experts see as the most important trends in this important component of healthcare delivery.

Andrew Watson

Vice-President, UPMC

Dr. Andrew Watson is a fourth-generation surgeon and the eighth surgeon in his family. He earned his Master’s degree at the University of Oxford studying 17th Century Baroque Architecture and attended medical school at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
He did his surgical training and fellowship at UPMC. He is an actively practicing colorectal surgeon specializing in minimally invasive inflammatory bowel diseases and complex reoperative abdominal surgery. He is the primary surgeon in the IBD medical home at UPMC. He actively uses and helps to develop telemedicine at UPMC with a focus on remote patient monitoring, he has personally done over 500 virtual consults including pre-operative, post-operative, tele-rounding, intra-operative, and remote patient monitoring.
He blends his career working for UPMC International, Insurance Services and Health Services Divisions to practice and help envision the transformation of healthcare, with a focus on remote patient monitoring. He is the President-Elect of the American Telemedicine Association.

Kristi Henderson

Vice President, Virtual Care & Innovation - Seton Family Healthcare,
Ascension Health

Dr. Henderson is the VP of Virtual Care & Innovation at Ascension- Texas Ministry and Clinical Professor of Population Health at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas- Austin. A few of her accomplishments include: American Academy of Nursing Fellow, 2015 Mississippi's 50 Leading Business Women, 2013 Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Fellow, the 2012 Mississippi Nurses Association recipient of the Nightingale Award for Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners 2010 NP Advocate State Award and an "Edge Runner" by the American Academy of Nurses.
Dr. Henderson has spent her career as an administrator, educator, innovator, researcher and clinician. Her focus is on the development and analysis of innovative approaches to transform the healthcare system. She has led the development of a statewide Telehealth program, which is recognized as a top telehealth program nationally. Dr. Henderson has testified to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee hearing entitled “Advancing Telehealth through Connectivity” as well as the subcommittee on Rural Health. She has testified to the White House Domestic Policy Council and has made numerous presentations across the country to advance telehealth policy and practice including giving a TEDx talk in November 2014 and being selected to speak at the 2016 SXSW event in Austin, TX. Dr. Henderson is regularly consulted by other state health care leaders, politicians, physicians, nurses, journalists and members of the academic community.

Some of her leadership roles include service as board member of the American Telemedicine Association, Executive Director of the Mississippi Telehealth Association and board member of Mississippi Health Information Network. Dr. Henderson is also a Fellow in the Emergency Nurses Association.

She received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, her master’s degree in nursing, from the Mississippi University for Women, and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi College. She maintains national certification as a family and acute care nurse practitioner.

Research Director

Bret works closely with healthcare providers to help stakeholders make technology decisions that optimally support the efficient delivery of quality care for all. In his research, he and his team at KLAS actively track diverse implementations of all leading telehealth solutions to fully understand results achieved and lessons learned.
Bret’s extensive experience in the software industry gives him a uniquely perspective on clinical efficacy, deployment and lifecycle TCO issues, and compliance and security considerations. He leads KLAS research in the Telehealth ecosystem and will be publishing a co-sponsored report with the ATA on Home RPM this Fall.
