This session will discuss advances in specialty telehealth services and how the patient has become the consumer.

Marc Ackerman

Executive Director
American Teledentistry Association

Dr. Ackerman is the Executive Director of the American Teledentistry Association. Clinically, he specializes in the orthodontic treatment of patients with dentofacial deformity, intellectual and physical disabilities and sleep disordered breathing. Dr. Ackerman is the Director of Orthodontics at Boston Children’s Hospital where he practices orthodontics full time. He also teaches residents in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Ackerman has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in orthodontics and professional ethics and his monograph, Enhancement Orthodontics: Theory and Practice, was released in 2007 by Blackwell-Wiley. He is a co-recipient of the 2004 B.F. and Helen E. Dewel Award from the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics which is given annually to the highest-rated clinical research article published in the previous year. Dr. Ackerman was the Editor-in-Chief of Special Care in Dentistry Journal from 2013-2016.

Douglas Grimm is a health care regulatory partner at Arent Fox who previously served as a former Chief Operating Officer of multiple acute-care hospitals throughout the United States. Douglas focuses his practice on the representation of hospitals and health care systems with an emphasis on regulatory counseling in the areas of compliance planning, government investigations, health information privacy and security, reimbursement issues, health information technology, peer review/medical staff and certificates of need, development of new service lines, licensure and provider enrollment, and insurance issues.

With over 25 years of experience in telemedicine, population health and healthcare technology, Cyndi Logan brings a unique blend of talent and leadership in developing solutions to meet the needs of the healthcare enterprise as well as the healthcare consumer. Cyndi has held healthcare product management strategy and leadership roles with AT&T, McKesson, Alere and is currently responsible for the global Respiratory Telehealth Solutions and Strategy for Philips Respironics. Cyndi graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy University and currently lives in Atlanta where she is involved with the Georgia Companion Bird Association actively rescuing amazon and macaw parrots.

Tonmoy Sharma

Sovereign Health Group

Tonmoy Sharma, CEO of Sovereign Health Group, has been recognized with numerous awards, honors and grants for his work in advancing mental health and its treatment in the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia. He is a prolific researcher and scientist, and the author or co-author of more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and five books on schizophrenia and mental illness. Sharma has served on numerous editorial boards, acted as a peer reviewer for 14 international medical journals, and has been on various advisory boards governing the development of antipsychotics. As a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrist’s London, Changing Minds Campaign, he helped lead a five-year initiative to combat the stigma of CNS illness. Mr. Sharma currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for Mental Illness of Orange County chapter and is a co-host of KABC 790 AM’s In Your Right Mind, a cutting-edge, weekly radio show that covers various topics on the latest headlines in behavioral health.

Ingrid Zimmer-Galler

Executive Clinical Director, Office of Telemedicine and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology
Johns Hopkins Medicine

Dr. Zimmer-Galler is the Executive Clinical Director of the Johns Hopkins Office of Telemedicine and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology. Her main research interest over the past decade has been in tele-ophthalmology including developing and implementing a large-scale telemedicine diabetic retinopathy screening program. She is currently piloting an emergency department ophthalmology tele-consult project with the goal of reducing transfers from community hospital EDs to the Johns Hopkins Hospital ED. There are currently more than 30 active telemedicine programs at Johns Hopkins which are facilitated through the Office of Telemedicine. She has previously served on the Board of Directors for the American Telemedicine Association and is presently a member of the telemedicine workgroup for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is a busy vitreoretinal surgeon and also participates in clinical trials for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal diseases.
