Afua is an expert in growth strategies for hospitals and health systems amid rapidly changing forces such as healthcare consumerism and value-based care. Her telehealth work has focused on facilitating telehealth adoption in health system service delivery. She has had the benefit of interacting with nearly three dozen of the largest health system telehealth early-adopters and heard first-hand the goals and practical challenges these early adopters encountered. She has also researched telehealth vendors across the direct-to-consumer, fixed site and remote patient monitoring spaces.
Afua was previously a consultant with McKinsey and Company, a global consulting company, where she served hospital clients on optimizing front line operations and US government clients on large scale performance transformation and change management. She was also a post-doctoral fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington DC, leading research on political governance and food insecurity in emerging economies. She is presently Managing Director of Corporate Strategy at the Advisory Board Company.
Afua graduated top of her undergraduate class at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she double-majored in Materials Science and Engineering and Economics and held several records on the Women’s Indoor and Outdoor track and field teams. She also has a PhD in Economics from The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University. Currently, she lives in Maryland with her husband and two daughters.
