There are significant opportunities to leverage telemedicine and telehealth capabilities to enhance your organizations value based performance. This course will discuss policy, reimbursement and program design allowing your organization to harness telemedicine to maximize your performance in accountable care and risk-based contracts. Key elements that will be discussed is improving coordination of care to optimize risk based contracts, improving patient outcomes in post-acute facilities, effective use and billing of Remote Patient Monitoring services, and virtual services to maximize patient activation and self-care.

Liz Cothren, MSN, RN, brings more than 19 years of clinical and professional experience to her role as Senior Engagement Manager with Advisory Board. In this role, Ms. Cothren specializes in telehealth, post-acute care network development, reducing clinical variability and electronic health record (“EHR”) initiatives, leveraging technology to drive initiatives for growth, provider-focused workflow development, and financial and operational efficiency.

Prior to her work with Advisory Board, Ms. Cothren served as Assistant Vice President of Telemedicine Services for Ochsner Health System in New Orleans. She led initiatives to develop new virtual care delivery services using technology and informatics, and leveraged specialty group practices to expand partnership with acute care facilities across the Gulf Coast region. Her oversight of strategy, financial stability, sales, and operational management for the development of telehealth infrastructure across the system led to 100 percent (100%) partner retention for the system’s telehealth initiative over her seven years tenure there.

Laurie Norman

Laurie Norman, APRN, MSN, is a Vice President specializing in value-based care and physician alignment strategies. Ms. Norman brings more than 20 years of hands-on clinical experience, including extensive quality of care and financial performance management expertise, as well as experience orienting, mentoring, training and educating medical staff. Over the past seven years, Ms. Norman has worked with several Advisory Board clients across the country, assisting in the development of quality and initiative programs for Clinical Integration (“CI”), development and implementation Hospital Efficiency Improvement Programs (“HEIP”), service line strategy assessment and development, co-management arrangements, and other care variation reduction strategies.
Previously, Ms. Norman served as Clinical Nurse Specialist and Orthopedic Service Line Director at East Jefferson General Hospital (“EJGH”) in Metairie, Louisiana, where she provided effective management over the orthopedic service line and led the development of physician alignment strategies such as co-management and CI programs. Additionally, Ms. Norman held responsibility and accountability for quality of care and financial performance. In this position, she also collaborated with organizational leadership, physicians and other primary team members to develop, enhance and evaluate orthopedic program initiatives that ran parallel with the strategic goals of the hospital.
Ms. Norman also served as an Acute Care Program Specialist at EJGH. During her tenure in this role, she had complete autonomy to initiate, implement and evaluate the processes of the acute and post-acute care programs, total joint program and spine program. This involved evidence-based practice initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborative efforts, which affected quality patient care and positive clinical outcomes. In this role, Ms. Norman had the ability to coordinate the medical and nursing plans of care through supportive physician and health care team relationships. Prior to this, she served as Clinical Educator at EJGH and as a Registered Nurse, where she had a lead role working with physicians for the transition to electronic health records.
Ms. Norman is a Board Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist and sits on the National Research and Evidence Based Practice Council for the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses. She earned a Master of Science in nursing from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Loyola University in New Orleans. Ms. Norman is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
