Join this content-rich, half-day session for a look into the expansive field of telehealth. Hear from experts on the distinctions between telemedicine, econsults, and digital health, take away practical programmatic ideas for the development and implementation of a program, and receive answers to common policy and regulatory questions. Administrators, clinicians, IT specialist and operations managers in the beginning or early stages of program development are encouraged to attend.

Jana Katz-Bell

Assistant Dean, Interprofessional Programs
UC Davis Health

Jana Katz–Bell is Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Programs at UC Davis School of Medicine and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. She served as Chief Administrative Officer for the UC Davis Center for Health and Technology from 1995 - 2007 where she led this distinctive program. Under her leadership, the CHT won national and worldwide attention as one of the best telemedicine programs in the United States.

Along with Associate Vice Chancellor, Thomas Nesbitt, Ms. Katz-Bell was responsible for the development and implementation of projects which supported the mission of the CHT as well as the University of California, Davis Health System. She currently works on statewide telehealth initiatives, the advancement of interprofessional goals, and is a core member of the launch team for the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis.

Ms. Katz-Bell received her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Davis, and her master’s degree in public health at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to her formal education and extensive background developing and managing telehealth programs, Ms. Katz–Bell has become a nationally recognized speaker of telemedicine issues, her testimony during deliberations of the California State Legislature on Senate Bills 1665 and 2098 led to legislation which favors telemedicine reimbursement. Ms. Katz-Bell also served for several years as a board member and held the seat of Vice President for the Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law, a national telehealth legal and regulatory resource center.

James P. Marcin

Professor, Pediatric Critical Care; Director, Pediatric Telehealth Services
UC Davis Health

Dr. Jim Marcin is a Professor of Pediatrics, Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Interim Chief of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, and Interim Medical Director of the Center for Health and Technology at UC Davis Health. He is also a Major Professor in the Graduate Group in Epidemiology, a faculty member of the UC Davis Center for Healthcare Policy and Research, a faculty member of the UC Davis School of Public Health, and a faculty member in the UC Davis Health Informatics Graduate Group.

Dr. Marcin’s expertise and research interests include the use of telemedicine in pediatric critical care and emergency medicine, inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Marcin is an internationally recognized speaker and has been conducting research into the impact of telemedicine on quality of care, patient safety, and financial outcomes. He is the founding Chair of the American Telemedicine Association’s Pediatric Special Interest Group and has provided guidance to his colleagues across the nation on telehealth program development.

Amanda Bell

eCARE Quality & Innovation Officer
Avera eCARE

Mandy Bell is the eCARE Quality & Innovation Officer at Avera Health in Sioux Falls, SD and works with each of the Avera’s eCARE telemedicine teams to demonstrate performance outcomes. Mandy specializes in new service line launches and also leads public policy efforts related to Avera’s telehealth programs. She serves as Avera's principal investigator on eEmergency related research programs and assisted with several peer-reviewed manuscripts. Mandy has a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota.

Candace Sadorra

Clinic Manager

Candace Sadorra serves as the Telehealth Clinic Manager for the Center for Health and Technology. In this role, Ms. Sadorra provides operational leadership and oversight of the clinical telehealth program at UC Davis Health. Prior to this position, Candace served as the Pediatric Telemedicine Program Manager for several years, where she managed several large pediatric telehealth grant initiatives leading to the development of one of the most recognized and robust pediatric telehealth networks in the country.

Anna Orlowski

As Chief Counsel for UC Davis Health, Anna Orlowski provides legal services to the health care enterprise that includes the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, the Medical Center and its outpatient clinics. Ms. Orlowski works closely with the UC Davis Center for Health and Technology to support its clinical, research, and outreach missions.

Juan Trujano

IT Manager
UC Davis Health

Juan Trujano is the Information Technology Manager for UC Davis Health in the Department of Pediatrics. He has worked in IT with UC Davis for over twenty years and has been involved in Telemedicine for over fifteen years. During this time Mr. Trujano has prepared and established Telemedicine equipment for a variety of rural hospitals for use in specialized care, researched and tested new technologies and trained groups and individuals on how to effectively use Telemedicine. His experience has led to invitations as a guest speaker at a variety of national meetings, including the Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting and the Pediatric Telehealth Colloquium, focusing on a Beginner’s Guide to Telemedicine Technology, equipment used in Telemedicine and Supporting Telemedicine Projects. Mr. Trujano has also co-authored multiple articles in the Pediatric Annals with the focus of fundamentals of Telemedicine and the use of Telemedicine for children in need of intensive care.
