Variability in contouring remains one of the largest uncertainties in modern radiation therapy, despite continued research and investigation over many years. Methods of assessment of contouring variation and possible solutions through education, automation and intervention have been investigated extensively. Variation in contouring has been attributed to observer experience, imaging modality, the use of guidelines and patient tumor factors. IMRT, SBRT and 4DCT simulation have increased the need for effective target delineation and appropriate contouring of organs-at-risk since they all rely on mastering radiologic-based contouring. This session focuses on mastering those skills sot that clinicians can provide optimal treatment for their patients with lung cancer in a variety of clinical settings.
