The project objective is to increase the yield of latex concentrate in a latex factory through innovation. The Eco-Hevea team was formed through a synergetic collaboration between Malaysia National University (University Malaya), and in-house Sime Darby Plantation research and development, business strategy, and quality management departments. Each group is connected through self-completing functions that move toward the same goal: operation excellence. The Lean Six Sigma DMAIC approach was key for the project success. Utilization of tools such as Pareto analysis, SPC, I-MR chart, SIPOC, RACI matrix, FMEA, QFD, and TRIZ enabled the team to achieve a breakthrough result. The improvement resulted in an increment of latex yield from 49.14 to 52.717 percent, with an annual benefit of US$267,151. In addition, innovations from the project yielded two patented technologies.
