Building and Sustaining a Culture of Quality

Concurrent Session

T22 - Transforming Quality at Sound Transit

Tuesday, May 1
10:45 AM - 11:45 AM
Location: WSCC 611 - 612

Level: Intermediate

This session highlights the interrelated strategies deployed for enhancing the quality culture at one of the largest capital development transit agencies in the country. With an estimated $72 billion in tax payer-allocated funds, this agency is moving forward with many concurrent infrastructure projects using both traditional and design-build methodologies. Attend this session and learn how the quality program is being transformed to emphasize collaboration rather than compliance, process improvement rather than finding deficiencies, and positive engagement rather than adversarial relationships. These strategies are both top-down and bottom-up and include quality strategic planning, staff development, quality manual revisions, interactive quality workshops, data mining, development of an agency quality dashboard, quality training, and engagement strategies for the internal project management staff, construction management consultants ,and contractors.
