During the evaluation of some products, it is customer opinions rather than specifications that are the primary concern. Historically, we have accumulated opinion-based data using a Likert scale, a scale of 1-to-5 or similar ordinal approach.
However, there is a better way. This session will demonstrate, in case study format, a low-cost method that extracts continuous rather than ordinal data from customer opinions using a combination of measurement systems analysis, a few representative, cooperative customers, a $10 investment, and a heavy emphasis on data visualization.
The case study describes an approach to a nettlesome, hard-to-measure product characteristic called "hand," a highly subjective evaluation of suppleness or tactile flexibility, that is commonly used in the textile, nonwoven fabric, arborist rope, and similar industries. Attendees will learn everything needed to plan a customer opinion evaluation, interpret the results, and ultimately make better decisions.
