All too often, our reactions to having to change are similar to the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance); and like grief, change initiatives can get stalled somewhere between denial and depression. There are many reasons for negative reactions to change, but one key reason is found in the statement "having to change;" where change, like grief, is thrust upon us without warning.
Stephen Covey is known for many things, one of which is the profound statement: "Start with the end in mind." It is a simple concept, but frequently overlooked during change development and management. There are a wealth of tools and techniques commonly used by quality, project, and risk managers for other purposes that are well-suited for planning change initiatives, identifying and engaging stakeholders, and identifying and managing risks that may be associated with change. When well-planned and executed, change initiatives can inspire innovation in an organization.
Learning Objectives:
- Get a complete understanding of applied change management planning.
- Identify and categorize stakeholders to support change initiatives.
- Understand and use risk-based decision-making tools to enhance success of change initiatives.
- Discover how innovation uses existing tools and techniques in a new way.
