Building and Sustaining a Culture of Quality

Concurrent Session

T04 - Quality Is Not Just for the Quality Department

Tuesday, May 1
9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
Location: WSCC Ballroom 6C

Level: Basic

This session will demonstrate the integration of the key principles of manufacturing excellence, including total quality, within the Johnson Controls manufacturing system (JCMS). JCMS has been successfully deployed through more than 125 facilities around the globe and is driving significant performance improvement. The culture for quality within Johnson Controls is being driven by the development of the total quality principle. It is composed of 165 individual manufacturing practices that are described across five levels of maturity. The transformational journey, in its fourth year, has been one of changing from "another corporate initiative" to fundamentally changing the way in which the plants work in quality. Quality is a principle that the entire plant follows—not just a department within the facility. An exploration of this journey may help other organizations that struggle with integrating the needs and requirements of quality into the DNA of the organization.
