Experience Bartram’s Garden and the Bartram’s Mile section of the Schuylkill River Trail. Take a walk along the Schuylkill riverfront that has been reclaimed from its industrial past and admire living collections at Bartram’s Garden that continue to grow, bloom, and reproduce as they have since 1728.

Brad Thornton, ASLA, LEED AP is a Senior Associate at Ground Reconsidered. He has excelled at creating innovative and technically resourceful design solutions to complex challenges over his 15 years of experience. The breadth of his experience includes award winning work on all phases of a diverse range of projects including campus master plans, urban parks, streetscapes, historic restorations, and ecological restorations. Brad has a unique enthusiasm for soil science among landscape architects, which he continually endeavors to expand. Brad consulted the Philadelphia Water Department to retool their Green Stormwater Infrastructure Soils technical specification.

Jason Curtis, ASLA, SITES AP

Jason’s agricultural upbringing and direct experience with sustainable systems provides him with a unique perspective as a landscape architect. During his seventeen years in the profession, he has used his diverse background and interests to effectively address the intricacies of small residential projects as well as complex urban and institutional sites. Jason enjoys multidisciplinary collaboration in the design process and discovering how to accomplish more with less. He is an active participant in the development and implementation of several sustainable design rating systems, helping clients understand the value of an ecological landscape design approach.

José Almiñana, FASLA, SITES AP

José has been instrumental in the development of industry-wide standards and landscape performance metrics that place landscape architects at the core of the sustainability movement. He has been a significant part of the development of the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES), which aims to shift traditional land development and management practices towards the preservation and provision of ecosystem services. Beyond SITES, José and his colleagues at Andropogon have completed multiple LEED and Living Building Challenge projects and are advocating for robust, post-ocupation monitoring and adaptive management programs that are critical to making sure our designs perform as intended.

Joel T. Fry

John Bartram Association

Joel Fry is an archaeologist, historian and has served as curator for Bartram’s Garden, the home of John and William Bartram in Philadelphia, PA, since 1992. He first became involved in archaeological research at Bartram’s Garden in 1975, and has participated in a number of archaeological and historic research projects at the garden site since. He studied anthropology, historical archaeology, and American Civilization at the University of Pennsylvania, and has written extensively on the history of Bartram’s Garden and the Bartram family plant collections. Joel provided historic research and supervised archaeology for the Ann Bartram Carr Garden restoration, 2013-2016.

Tamara Henry

Landscape Architect
Ground Reconsidered

Tammy is an enthusiastic designer, technically proficient and highly skilled. Prior to her career in landscape architecture, Tammy worked as a consultant researching land remediation and reclamation. Her 10 years of professional experience encompasses a variety of projects ranging in scale and complexity, including streetscapes, university campuses, and civic and recreational facilities. Tammy was the landscape designer for the Ann Bartram Carr Garden restoration at Bartram’s Garden.
