Iceland is a leading producer of renewable energy, but it creates new challenges. How can energy projects be integrated into the landscape? This session shows design proposals submitted for two future energy projects, hydropower and geothermal power. These projects illustrate an expanded role for landscape architects in the energy sector.

Bjork has a BLA in Landscape Architecture from SUNY ESF, MSc in Urban Design from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, certified Landscape Architect in Iceland FILA and currently working at Landsvirkjun.

With over 20 years of experience in a wide range of projects including strategies, design, mitigations, sustainable development, landscape/visual assessment and planning. As a PM for Planning & Landscaping, she offers insight into renewable energy in Iceland, in unique geological and sublime landscape. Current work is on visual impacts, integrating artificial forms and landscape. Bjork collaborates with stakeholders to formulate planning and design proposals that balance environmental, social and economical factors.

Adalheidur Atladottir

Architect
A2F Architects

Adalheidur Atladottir, architect FAI, is a member of the Association of Architects in Iceland (AI). She graduated from the Technical University of Aachen in Germany, 2004. She is a co-owner of A2F Architects, which is situated in Reykjavik and Berlin, and she also teaches classes at the faculty of architecture at the Iceland Academy of the Arts.
With 15 years of expierence in diverse fields of architecture (from urban planning to detailing) and in different countries across Europe, the main focus of her work is to minimize environmental impact of buildings and maximize comfort and wellbeing of the users.

Matthew Potteiger

Professor
Department of Landscape Architecture, State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry

Matthew Potteiger holds a Masters of Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and a BLA from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry where is director of the Off-Campus program. The focus of his teaching, research, and community engagement is on linking design to cultural practices that shape landscapes. He received an ASLA Merit award for Landscape Narratives: Design Practices for Telling Stories, co-authored with Jamie Purinton.
