Purpose: Many IHS facilities utilize Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mail order pharmacy, CMOP to mail prescriptions to IHS patients. The objective of this survey study is to determine the challenges IHS facilities come across while utilizing CMOP and the ways to tackle them to further enhance CMOP offerings within the IHS.
Methods: A survey has been developed comprised of ten questions asking about various aspects of prescription processing through CMOP. The topics range from the ways to mark a patient for CMOP to the management of CMOP rejected prescriptions. There is also an open-ended question asking about any challenges that was not reflected in any of the other survey questions. The Chief Pharmacist of each IHS facility that utilize CMOP will be contacted and will be asked to complete the survey or delegate to the proper personnel to complete the survey. The survey will be distributed and the answers will be collected using the survey software, SurveyMonkey. The answers from the survey will be used to formulate a report summarizing the relative pros/cons, challenges/opportunities, strengths/weaknesses of implementing CMOP. It could also be applied toward continued quality improvement of CMOP offerings throughout the IHS.
