Purpose: At the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, the electronic consult (eConsult) tool is used for mental health providers to utilize clinical pharmacists in patient care. Providers use the eConsult tool to solicit interventions from clinical pharmacy specialists in the area of mental health. The components of the eConsult tool include: benzodiazepine tapering, drug screen interpretation, prescription drug monitoring program, and other pharmacotherapy queries. The purpose is to evaluate the use of the eConsult program by mental health providers and to assess the utility of, and satisfaction with the eConsult tool from mental health providers’ perspectives.
Methods: Data will be gathered through a retrospective review of the Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS) and will look at which components of the tool were used, number of interventions made by clinical pharmacy specialists, and whether interventions were accepted or not. Data will be collected from a 12-month time frame and will be analyzed using descriptive statistics. A feedback assessment form will also be used to assess provider satisfaction with the eConsult tool and any improvement recommendations for the tool. This project will be analyzed using descriptive statistics. All patient data will be de-identified and will be assigned a code number for identification purposes to protect patient privacy.
