Smart water grid(SWG) research group organized by Korea Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been working since 2012 to develop next-generation of water management technology by introducing converged cutting-edge Information-Communication Technology (ICT) based on the platform of smart meter and AMI system developed by NSWGRG.
Comparing to conventional water management, the technology of Smart Water Grid is a quite new one in the context of integrated water management to tackle water issues such as saving NRW and securing demand based water supply in real time. It also allows diversification of water sources to maximize availability of water supply and high reliability of securing low energy consumption and cost reduction. Our final outcomes of NSWGRG have been objectively successfully proven with satisfaction we expected after 2 years experimental operation and consequently adopted in real water works of In-cheon Metropolitan city.
In this study, we are able to confirm that as much as around 15% of NRW and 5% of energy consumption can be saved by introducing SWG technology. These results came out through the SWG Demonstration Plant built in Yeongjong Island on 528 smart meters, 1 leakage water sensor, 2 flow meter, 5 pressure meter, 528 AMI system and water operation program(Water supply scheduling, pipe network analysis etc.) and mobile apps for bidirectional information sharing with public.
We are applied to the demonstration plant that real-time usage based demand prediction through consumption using AMI, economical and technical water supply management based on the reaction of the real-time usage, saving energy through decision making for bidirectional water management, notify real-time consumer in case of pipe network accident and leakage. Smart Water Grid is recommend for the installation of cost-effective and sustainable water systems for national or local projects for water management.
