Oral

397919 - LIFECYCLE COSTS OF GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE

Tuesday, June 5
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Location: Mirage Room
Co-Authors: Shandor Szalay, Philadelphia – AKRF, Inc.

For green infrastructure there is inadequate information on life cycle cost to inform decision making. For example, how to project attributes such as scale and location drive green infrastructure implementation costs? What implications do investments in pretreatment and sediment control have on service life? What reasonable assumptions can we make about long-term maintenance costs and benefits at this time?

This session will provide a review methods, tools, and best practices that can be used to support informed, cost-based decision making for the complete life cycle of urban and suburban green infrastructure programs. The presentation will also review operational lessons learned from leading green infrastructure programs in Philadelphia, New York City, and Prince George’s County, Maryland. The session will cover the following topics:

• Tools and models for predicting construction and maintenance cost.
• Planning and design from a life cycle cost perspective.
• Construction impacts on life cycle cost.
• Maintenance frequencies and level of service.
• Replacement / end of life cycle planning.
