Tremendous advantages of the burgeoning IT and operation technology integration in water sector are accompanied by requirements for informed security mechanisms and regulations. This study compiles and reviews the known historical cybersecurity incidents in water sector. This includes reported incidents of a cybersecurity nature that have (or could have) affected the normal process and operation of a water system. The study aims to understand and document the reliability, consequences, and contributing factors associated with individual incidents. This investigation will help finding any repeatings themes present in the incidents and identifying lessons learned, from other critical sectors too, to design more reliable security practices and policies.
