The Mexicali valley in Colorado River delta has been one of the most productive agricultural regions in the area. The valley also is rapidly becoming an important area for Baja California's expanding urban population. Because of the importance of surface water-groundwater sources in the Valley, its necessary evaluating surface water and ground-water conditions based on historical and anticipated future water use. This study presents the hydro-geologically important surface and groundwater system in relation to landscape attributes for irrigation district of Colorado River delta, with the aim of fully coupled simulation and analysis of the use and movement of water from precipitation, stream flow and runoff, groundwater flow, and consumption by agricultural vegetation throughout the hydrologic system by using MODFLOW- Farm process (MF-FMP). This allows for more complete analysis of the conjunctive use of water-resource systems than previously possible with MODFLOW by combining relevant aspects of the landscape with the groundwater and surface water components. The distributions of the calculated hydraulic conductivity show a similar trend throughout the modeling area. The model provides a detailed transient analysis of changes in ground-water availability.
