Post doctoral research associate
Dr. Ioannis Gidaris is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Rice University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering working in the NIST-funded Center of Excellence for Risk-Based Community Resilience. Prior to his position at Rice University, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (2008) and Master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering (2009) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Dr. Gidaris obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (2015). His research focuses in natural hazard risk assessment and mitigation, analysis and optimal design under uncertainty of complex civil engineering systems and high performance structures, risk-informed decision making, as well as probabilistic multi-hazard modeling with the ultimate goal of enhancing the performance and resilience of civil infrastructure. Dr. Gidaris’ research aims at integrating the versatility of simulation-driven approaches and the computational efficiency of surrogate modeling and high-performance computing to address the challenges associated with solving complex engineering problems. He is also the recipient of the Young Researcher Best Paper Award in the International Conference on Soft Computing Technology in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (2015), and of the International Civil Engineering Risk and Reliability Association Student Recognition Award in the ICASP12 conference (2015).
