Senior Coastal Scientist/Project Manager
Dr. Brian Batten is a Senior Coastal Scientist and Project Manager at Dewberry. With over 20 years of experience, Brian provides technical leadership to coastal and resilience consulting projects for federal, state, and municipal clients. He has broad subject matter expertise in sea level rise, coastal processes, coastal flood hazard analysis, and adaptation planning support. Dr. Batten has led an array of sea level rise vulnerability analyses to support awareness and planning for a diverse clients including the National Academies of Science, FEMA, Port Authority of NY/NJ, the states of New York, North Carolina, and Florida, and communities such as St. Augustine, FL, Anne Arundel County, MD, and the Town of East Hampton, NY. Dr. Batten has been involved FEMA Flood Insurance Studies for over 2,800 miles of coast, is the technical lead of FEMA’s Sea Level Rise Pilot Studies, and serves on the Future Conditions subcommittee of FEMA’s Technical Mapping Advisory Council. Prior to joining Dewberry, Brian served as a research scientist at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory.
