We study the flow of water on a beach due to the impact of waves. This flow is of fundamental importance in coastal engineering since it controls the sediment transport and beach morphology. Through large-scale experiments and simplified models, we evaluate how the mean flow evolves as a function of the properties of the incident, transient long waveforms.
