Tsunami Impact on Buildings
The associated hydrodynamic parameters of a tsunami; pressures, velocities and water depths influence the tsunami-induced scour around buildings. Authors carried out numerical modelling using OpenFOAM model and verified it with published experimental data. They confirmed that the numerical model could reproduce experimental conditions reasonably well. A series of tsunami-induced scour experiments were performed in order to reproduce a damaged building in Miyagi Prefecture, following the 2011 Tohoku tsunami. The scour depth comparisons were made between the laboratory, field and a predictive model results. It is concluded that tsunami-induced scour is sensitive to hydrodynamic conditions at the seaward of the building.
