Sandspit, Ridges, and Protrusion
In this paper we present the results of the morphological development of the Sand Engine mega nourishment at the Dutch coast. A unique data-set of 37 morphological surveys is used to investigate the spreading of the nourished sediment in a 17km alongshore coastal cell. It is found that from the nourished 21.5 cubic meters of sediment, 4.2 million has been eroded from the nourishment location and 3 million has been accreted in the direct vicinity of the Sand Engine. This caused the alongshore extent of the nourished peninsula to increase in alongshore direction.
