A new wave tank–the Coastal and Ocean Basin (COB) – is currently under construction in Ostend, Belgium. The COB will provide state-of-the-art testing conditions for a wide range of applications. A unique feature will be the combined generation of waves, currents and wind, all at any relative direction, in a water depth up to 1.4 m. The COB will allow academic and commercial users to conduct experimental testing using scale models of coastal and offshore structures, coastal defense systems, floating wind turbines, wave and tidal energy converters, device mooring applications, etc... The basin is expected to be operational in 2019.
