Breaking waves drive complicated 3D turbulent structures in the surf zone, and also generate vorticity. Furthermore, they dissipate the incident wave energy. Previous field observation shows that viscous and turbulent dissipation of breaking waves contributed to surf zone heating. This numerical study, for the first time, examines the surf zone heating due to dissipation of breaking waves by using the mesh-free Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics model: GPUSPH.
