Sand Bar Movement
Nearshore sandbar patterns can affect the hydrodynamics and, as a result, the beach morphodynamics in the nearshore zone. In this study, freely available satellite images are used to manually extract the sandbar location over time at Anmok beach, South Korea. The method is validated against available in-situ measurements showing good agreement. With the derived data-set, various analyses are performed, regarding long-term sandbar dynamics, human interventions effects and sandbar-shoreline coupling. The results highlight the potential of the technique, especially for data-poor locations.
