Tsunami Impact on Wall
This study investigates the feasibility of hybrid simulation to coastal loading. The structure consists of a scaled physical model with a numerical solver and the fluid model is pure numerical. The flow field is modeled with 2D shallow water equations and cut-cell method is employed to incorporate the structural oscillation. Forces and deformations are exchanged via the local area network using TCP/IP protocol. Results show that hybrid simulation, which is widely used in earthquake engineering, can also be extended to analyze dynamic responses of structures to coastal loading. Furthermore, the fluid-structure interaction modifies the hydrodynamic forces on the structure.
